Well, a lot of future tutorials are going to end up referring to this guide, so I thought I'd get it written real quick Wink

Basically, whenever you want to mod Minecraft, open the screenshots folder, back up worlds, and more, you have to know the location of the .minecraft folder. Here's the paths and tips on how to get to it, for Windows, OS X, and Linux:

Windows 7/Vista:

Path: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\

A quick way to get to the folder without typing the path into Explorer:
  1. Press Windows Key + R
  2. Type "%appdata%\.minecraft" without the quotes
  3. Press Enter or click OK

Mac OS X:

Path: /Users/username/Library/Application Support/minecraft/

Open up Finder and navigate to the path above.

Linux:

Path: /home/username/.minecraft

Open up your home folder (usually the one that your Documents/Pictures/etc folders are in) and press Ctrl + H to show the .minecraft folder.

With all of the above, be sure to replace "username" in the paths with your username, of course.

Hope that helps someone Wink Be sure to Like, Tweet, and +1 this guide Wink

That was already included in the guide, but it's not labeled to include Windows XP

Or, another easier way is to go..

1. Go into your Mods and Texturepacks Folder in MineCraft.
2. Hit Go to Texturepacks Folder
3. Go back one too the .minecraft
4. Your there! Big Grin

Hopefully my (FAIL) thing helps people! Big Grin

That might work too. I would just like to note that if you do it this way, you may not actually be able to access the folder contents or change/import other things into the folder on certain systems (such as Ubuntu).

Also note, however that my issue could just be one for my installation, so this more than likely will work for you.

Good mini-guide. It's such a simple thing, yet 99% of all the guides on how to install mods and texture packs uses the .minecraft folder.

Yeah, a few people know little tips and tricks, some people even make a link/shortcut to the folder once they find it. I find most mod(s)/mod authors don't specify the locations though, they just say something like "Go to your minecraft folder..."

I'm more of a fan of just speeding through everything. When I want something done, I want it done ASAP. Tongue
